Brookwood School 8th Annual Sustainability Fair

Brookwood School Sustainability Fair 2014

Brookwood School in Manchester, MA, is proud to present the 8th Annual Sustainability Fair on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event theme of this year's fair is "Gardening: Habitats Around Us" and promises to be an exciting day that is sure to educate, inspire and involve.

A number of local organizations will be featured at this year’s fair including:

The Brookwood School Sustainability Fair is an invitation to participate and contribute to the next steps we can take as individuals and collectively in making sustainability a reality.

The theme of last year's fair was "Citizen Science." explains Sustainability Coordinator Dr. Henry Oettinger,

"Citizen Science is a new approach to science, involving more people in scientific initiatives like our Sustainability Fair. Basically, individuals from anywhere in the world can contribute their observations about a particular topic which is then collected in a centralized database for analysis by trained scientists. With this enhanced pool of data in hand, scientists are better able to answer questions about long-term and widespread changes in the environment."

Dr. Oettinger adds that the "Citizen Science approach has important tie-ins to Brookwood's project-based learning and builds on activities kids already do for fun like counting fireflies, squirrels or bees. It's a great way for families of all ages to connect with the environment in a more meaningful way."
