Brookwood School proudly welcomes acclaimed psychologist and author Dr. Wendy Mogel to campus on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 7 p.m. Dr. Wendy Mogel, author of the best-selling The Blessing of a B Minus and The Blessing of a Skinned Knee, will discuss how parents can raise self-reliant, less defiant, optimistic children in a nervous world. Her talk, part of Brookwood School’s 4 to 14 Speaker Series: Parenting Elementary School Kids, will be followed by a question and answer session and a book signing.

In a world where entitlement and competition abound, Mogel’s thoughtful reflections on raising children have struck a chord with thousands of readers. The Blessing of a Skinned Knee, considered a must-read by parents across the country, points the way to raising self–reliant, compassionate and ethical children and has been called an antidote to over-anxious parenting.

Publisher’s Weekly gave the book, a starred review saying, “Impassioned, lyrical and eminently practical, this volume is a real treasure.”

In the follow-up, The Blessing of a B Minus, Mogel shows parents how to navigate the teenage years, when a child’s sense of entitlement and independence grows, the pressure to compete skyrockets, and communication becomes fraught with obstacles.

Saying, “We should all give thanks for The Blessing of a B Minus,” Dr. Michael Thompson adds that like Mogel herself, “this book is funny and full of common sense. It will give parents something they need: perspective on the complicated and often maddening business of raising adolescents."

Mogel, a clinical psychologist, is a graduate of Middlebury College and completed her internship and post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She serves on numerous boards including the Center for Early Education and the scientific advisory board of Challenge Success, a program of the Stanford University School of Education.

Mogel has been interviewed on the dangers of the over protection, over indulgence and over scheduling of children by numerous publications including  The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Better Homes and Gardens and Parents Magazine. She also has been a guest expert on CNN, The Talk, The Today Show, and various NPR radio shows.

Buy tickets today for this rare opportunity to learn from one of our country’s most trusted parenting authorities on the subjects of children, parenting, and families. The event is open to the public, and area parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Purchase tickets online today until 4p.m.

General Admissions tickets are $10. Tickets are available on the Brookwood School website and at the door the evening of the lecture. Click: Dr. Wendy Mogel to visit brookwood.edu and purchase ticket.
