Art Classes for Kids at Art Haven in Gloucester

The North Shore of Massachusetts is filled with talented artists and here in Gloucester we are fortunate that many make their services available to families. Cape Ann Art Haven has a rich and wonderful program to connect these artists to provide opportunities to add some art to our kids lives.

CLASSES FOR ALL AGES:

Art for Special Needs (Any age with a parent)
Mondays 5:30 - 7:00
$10/first child, $5/each additional child
Artists of all ages and abilities are welcome to come join us for fun art projects in everything from clay to colored pencil and collage!  

Family Open Studio (Any age with a parent)
Friday 3:30-5:30
$10/first child, $5/each additional child
Join us for a project organized by an instructor, followed by time to explore & experiment with everything our studio has to offer. A great time to hang out with the family and get the creative juices flowing! 

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSES

Art Foundations (Grades 3-6) Monday 3:30-5:00 $40 for a 5-week session, $10 walk-in fee Learn the basics of painting and drawing including perspective, color theory, composition, and art materials!

Youth Clayworks (Grades 3-6) Tuesday 3:30-5:00 $40 for a 5-week session, $10 walk-in fee An introduction to the world of sculpture and collage. Come make a variety of projects including clay pinch pots, ceramic animals, masks, tiles, and other sculptures.

Printmaking I (Grades 3-6) Wednesday 3:30-5:00 $40 for a 5-week session Monoprinting and collographs using an assortment of material for printing: cut paper, fabric, and cardboard to name a few. MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES

Youth Pottery (Grades 6-9)
Thursday 3:30-5:00
$40 for a 5-week session, $10 walk-in fee
Students learn the basics of the pottery wheel and create useful finished pieces out of clay.


Printmaking II (Grades 7-12)
Wednesdays 5:30 - 7:00
$40 for a five-week session
More advanced methods of collograph printmaking and relief printing processes such as rubber stamps, linocuts and woodcuts. Students will learn various techniques for carving their image and printing their blocks.



Youth Open Studio (Grades 7-12)
Tuesday, Thursday 5:30-7:00
$60 for a 5-week session, $10 walk-in fee
Students design their own long-term projects, setting goals to accomplish those projects. The opportunity to work in any medium available, including clay, paint, pen & ink, design, etc.



Youth Photography (Grades 7-12)
Mondays 6:00-8:30
$75 for a 5-week session
An introduction course to Black & White photography. Learn the basics of camera use, as well as shooting strategies. Followed by developing and printing photographs in the darkroom.

Open Darkroom Time (Grades 7-12)
Wednesdays 6:00-8:30
$75 for a 5-week session
During this time, students who have taken the five week intro course are welcome to spend time developing their film and exploring their own projects in the darkroom. Also, they will be introduced to new alternative processing methods periodically.

Portfolio Design (Grade 11-12)
Monday 7:00-9:00
$75 for a 5-week session
Students who are looking to apply to art school or any school as an art major can take this class to photograph their art work and put together portfolios. Art Haven staff will also assist with finding portfolio requirements for various colleges and helping students to strengthen their portfolios in weak areas.
