Duckling Day Parade - Mother's Day 2010

Based on the book [amazon 1591127327] by Robert McCloskey, children and their families will retrace the steps of Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their family of eight ducklings. Led by the Harvard University Marching Band, children relive the adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Mallard dressed as one of their favorite characters from the book in a parade on Boston Common and Boston Public Garden.

The annual Ducklings Day Parade begins at 12:00pm on the Boston Common and Boston Public Garden, opposite the State House. Registration will begin at 10:00am at the base of the Shaw Memorial, just below the State House. You may also preregister online at www.friendsofthepublicgarden.org. For more information see website or call 617-266-5669.

A balloon artist, a magician and a face painter will be at the event to entertain children before the parade begins. As this year is the 40th anniversary of the Friends of the Public Garden, there will be a birthday cake at the end of the procession.

Mayor Menino and his children and grandchildren are expected to lead the parade along with the Harvard University Marching Band. They, along with the Boston Dept. of Parks and Recreation, the Friends of the Public Garden and the Boston Police Department—ensuring that Officer Michael stands guard at the corner of Beacon and Charles—all make this parade possible.

For over 25 years, tens of thousands of children have relived the adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their eight little ducklings as they learn about the city of Boston on field trips sponsored by Historic Neighborhoods. And the annual celebration continues to delight families from throughout New England.

The Friends of the Public Garden is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and protection of the Boston Common and Boston Public Garden, the Public Garden and the Commonwealth Avenue Mall.
