Comic books and movies are filled with characters with superpowers that humans would love to have, like flight, super-hearing, super-vision, super-speed, and super-strength. But did you know that many animals possess these amazing abilities, and some animals even inspired our favorite superheroes? Come investigate some of the super-organisms that live on our sanctuary - you will be amazed!

Babysitters Course at NPL

Newburyport Public Library offers a babysitting course for kids in grades 6-12!

Kids in Grades 6-12 are invited to NPL for babysitter training! Would you like to learn babysitting skills? If you are 11-18 years old come and attend our 4-H Babsitters Course! Participants will come to understand the responsibilities of babysitting and learn the skills needed to become good babysitters. Teens will develop confidence in handling situations they may encounter when babysitting. Upon completion of this course, you will receive a Babysitter’s ID card and a certificate of completion.

Whale Alert!: Meet the Author

Whale Alert! author Angela Kakabeeke at Abbott Library in Marblehead

Join the effort to protect our endangered right whale. Hear local children’s author Angela Kakabeeke share her new book, Whale Alert!, about the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale. Angela is excited to work with Women Working for Oceans (W2O) and the New England Aquarium in sharing this story. In addition to the reading, there will be educational hands-on activities for children and adults, including whale science kits that reveal the unique characteristics of the right whale and the hazards that they encounter in our blue backyard.

Adventure Day: Winged Wonders

Kids will explore and learn about the winged creatures of IRWS for Spring break

Kids will learn about the winged creatures that inhabit the sanctuary at this vacation week program. Spring is in full swing and all our flying friends are in a frenzy. If it has wings, we'll find it, and learn about the different ways creatures use their wings. Using binoculars, nets, and bug boxes, we'll take an up-close look at birds, dragonflies, butterflies, and other insects that make their homes at the sanctuary.

Wildwood Camp

Mass Audubon's Camp Wildwood in Rindge NH offers a wide variety of overnight programs for kids, teens and families!

Wildwood is a multidimensional summer program for young people ages 9 to 17 focusing on active exploration of the natural world. Wildwood also offers a special 3-day mini-camp for ages 7-8, and a family camp offering safe, quiet and natural settings for a unique family experience. Owned and operated by Mass Audubon, Wildwood is a place where friendships are formed and respect for the environment is forged. Campers arrive curious about nature and leave committed to the preservation of our natural resources.
