February Vacation at MIT Museum

Kids will have a blast at the MIT Museum in Cambridge Massachusetts during February Vacation Week!

Come on your own, with friends, or bring the whole family to the museum for a special week of programming. The museum has a number of activities planned for the week of February 14-22, including extended Maker Hub and Learning Lab hours, tours, gallery cart demos and family workshops. With the exception of family workshops, all activities are free with museum admission. Take a look at the full schedule below, then plan your visit.

Family Workshop: Stop Motion

Wednesday, February 18 | 2:30 - 4pm

Join us for this hands-on family workshop where you'll create your own stop-motion video while learning the basics of animation. We will explore the science of how the brain processes vision and artistic concepts of composition as you work together to compose your own animated shorts.

This workshop is designed for families and friends working in small groups. Children must be age 11 and above, and must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop. Workshop price includes museum admission. Please feel free to explore the museum with your family before the workshop.

How did people tell time long before clocks, watches, or smartphones? In this hands-on family workshop, you’ll work together to explore the science, engineering, and history behind one of the world’s oldest timekeeping tools: the sundial.

This workshop is designed for families and friends working in small groups. Children must be age 11 and above, and must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop. Workshop price includes museum admission. Please feel free to explore the museum with your family before the workshop.

Winter Family Field Trip: Terrific Animal Tracking

Families will learn about identifying animal tracks at Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport Massachusetts!
Mammals such as squirrels, rabbits and deer leave many signs that they are active in winter. Learn how to interpret the tracks and signs or clues of active animals in winter. Stay active and warm with a group challenge about hibernation. Conduct an experiment about snow insulation.

Kidleidoscope at Breakheart Reservation

Kidleidoscope is a program designed for preschoolers at Breakheart Reservation in Saugus Massachusetts
Come join our park interpreter for a story time and nature walk! Complete a small craft and explore the woods! Walks are gently paced and approximately 1 mile, though not accessible for strollers. Appropriate for families with children 3-5 years old. Meet at the Visitor Center.
